Instagram releases a new shopping experience for Stories

The fresh development has expanded the shopping experience on Instagram as previously its feed was exclusively serving ads to let customers buy new products without leaving the photo-sharing platform.

Instagram stated: "Brands have always been early adopters of stories, they create some of the most viewed and engaging content on the platform". About 80 percent of users choose to connect with companies so they can shop and become familiar with the brand, Instagram chief operating officer Marne Levine said at Inc.'s GrowCo conference in May.

Users will be able to directly learn about products by selecting the new shopping bag icon, upon which they'd be able to get more details and potentially make a purchase.

As shown in Instagram's example, the stickers seem to look best when they're placed directly on or near the product.

According to Instagram, 300 million people use Stories every day, so that's a lot of potential consumers for brands to advertise their wares to.

"Shoppers on Instagram are savvy".

While Instagram is rolling out the feature with only a handful of retail partners, it could eventually be a particularly grabby tool for influencers to guide followers toward items they're selling.

"In a recent survey, Instagrammers said they often watch stories to stay in the-know with brands they're interested in, get an insider view of products they like, and find out about new products that are relevant to them".

Shopping stickers appear to be exclusive to large brands at the moment.
