Ewan McGregor is set to star in the film based on the novel Doctor Sleep and apparently has King's approval to play the adult Dan Torrance. Flanagan's producing partner, Trevor Macy, will produce along with Vertigo Entertainment's Jon Berg. King reportedly approves of the casting. Following the success of New Line's "It", every studio with any sort of King IP under its roof has fast-tracked each property into pre-production. It would be another 33 years before a follow-up was published, following Dan Torrance as he continues to deal with his "shining" powers as well as the alcoholism and rage that he inherited from his father. He works as a hospice nurse, using his psychic powers to ease the transition for dying patients, but he's also fighting for sobriety, the same addiction that made his dad so vulnerable to the evil forces lingering around the Overlook Hotel decades before. They've found that their powers grow if they inhale the "steam" that comes off others with the power to shine, when they are suffering painful deaths.

Danny's right here, Mrs. Torrance - and he looks like Ewan McGregor now.

This marks the second time that McGregor will step into the role of an adult version of a literary character, with the arrival of Disney's Christopher Robin set to happen later this year.

It remains to be seen if this film will serve as a standalone movie that acknowledges the storyline of The Shining or if it will in fact be a sequel to Stanley Kubrick's 1980 horror classic, which was also distributed by Warner Bros. He is repped by UTA.
