'The Nun' Trailer Has a Jump Scare You Won't Forget

After the Annabelle films proved to be massive hits, the darkest character from the franchise is finally getting her own spinoff and we can't wait. The trailer may lean in hard on the jump scares, we hope that the complex story of Valak lends to that same, can't-look-away brand of excellent, engaging horror that we've come to expect from the Conjuring movies.

This trailer is mighty effective, and I love the atmosphere that director Corin Hardy conjures here.

The new film is produced by Peter Safran and James Wan (who directed the first "Conjuring" movies and whose next project is 'Aquaman"), with a story from Wan and Gary Dauberman, who previously wrote the "Annabelle' movies. Much like the possessed doll Annabelle from the first Conjuring film, the nun was a creature that stood out and was impossible to forget after the final credits rolled on The Conjuring 2, so it's no surprise that Valak got its very own spin-off film, appropriately titled The Nun. Warner Bros. will release "The Nun" in theaters September 7.

A prequel to the other four movies in the franchise, The Nun takes place in 1952 after a Catholic priest and his team is sent by the Vatican to investigate the mysterious death of a nun in Romania. Bonnie Aarons reprises the Valek role, and a young nun (Taissa Farmiga, sister to Vera, who played Lorraine Warren in The Conjuring movies), who has had visions of Valek, travels to an abbey with a haunted past and an unholy secret to be uncovered. The duo confronts a malevolent force in the form of the same demonic nun that first terrorized audiences in Conjuring 2, as the abbey becomes a horrific battleground between the living and the damned.
