British pop star Robbie Williams might seem like the unlikeliest person to kick off the World Cup but, along with Russian soprano Aida Garifullina, the two artists will perform at the opening ceremony before the tournament gets underway on Thursday.

"I'm so happy and excited to be going back to Russian Federation for such a unique performance", Robbie said of the honour.

The Opening Ceremony will be produced by Russia's Channel One and the "creative concept" will be developed by Felix Mikhailov, who has directed other World Cup events including the preliminary and main draw.

"I don't know if that can happen, but what I hope is that the national team does its best in the World Cup and that we can come home with the trophy".

The "Angels" icon will perform to a crowd of 80,000 people at Moscow's Luzhniki Stadium on Thursday, shortly before the opening game between Russian Federation and Saudi Arabia.

Trump also assured that the USA would hold the tournament "in a similarly open and festive manner" as the 1996 and 2002 Olympic Games that the United States hosted, the Times reported.

Federation Internationale de Football Association notes that the new Elo method has been used in other sports for a number of years and is even involved in calculating the women's world rankings, with a specific version (SUM) developed especially to take into account FIFA's considerations. After so much hard work, suddenly the whole world is gathered in your backyard to celebrate their love for football.

"We are happy to introduce a new format for the FIFA World Cup opening and closing ceremonies, in terms of their duration and start time closer to kick-off", says Mikhailov. The co-director of the opening ceremony will be my friend Ilya Averbukh, who has added new colour to the spectacle on the pitch.
