Lucas Torreira; Arsenal in talks to sign Uruguay midfielder from Sampdoria

Lucas Torriera has an agreement on personal terms in place with Arsenal, moving him a step closer to a switch to the Emirates Stadium.

Arsenal have continued their attempt to add greater steel through the spine of the squad by holding talks over the potential signing of Uruguay and Sampdoria holding midfielder Lucas Torreira.

Torreira has a £21.9 million release clause in his contract, but Arsenal chose to add the extra money to beat Napoli to the the 22-year-old's signature.

It looks like a deal is on the cards as the Daily Star are now citing a report from Sport Mediaset that claims Arsenal have agreed to pay £26.5m [€30m] to sign the South American and are now working to agree personal terms with the midfielder.

According to Italian broadcaster Sportitalia, Torreira has agreed a contract worth €3m per year plus bonuses with Arsenal.

The 17-year-old had initially agreed to join the Gunners upon the expiration of his contract at the Parc des Princes, with new Gunners head coach Unai Emery playing a significant part in persuading Adli to join the club.

Arsenal's head of recruitment Sven Mislintat had always been scouting for players in these areas even before Wenger left and there is now firm interest in Totteira, who is 22 and has a £22 million release clause.
