A family lawyer identified the four children killed: Iraya, 12, Lillia, 10, Aidan, six, and Dove, one.

The coroner's office has not released the children's identities.

The standoff started around 11:45 p.m. Sunday night when an officer with the Orlando Police Department was shot while responding to a domestic violence call at the Westbrook Apartment complex near Universal.

Lindsey was found dead in a closet, 21 hours after the standoff first began.

It was Lindsey's patchy phone reception which ultimately brought the standoff to an end at around 9pm on Monday night, U.S. time. He says Lillia was a huge Disney fan and the 10-year-old enjoyed being with her friends. But two of the children found dead are believed to be Lindsey's, while the others are believed to belong to the woman who reported being battered by Lindsey.

Benenati set up a GoFundMe page to help pay for the children's funeral expenses. The page can be found here.

Neighbors in the Florida apartment complex where a felon killed four children and then himself during a daylong standoff that started with the shooting of an officer described the gunman as both nice and unusual.

Officers who stormed a three-bedroom unit at the Westbrook Apartments on Monday night, almost a full day after responding to an emergency call, found two rifles, two shotguns and a handgun inside, Orlando Police Chief John Mina said at a late-afternoon press conference. Around this time of the year, the apartment complex is packed with children playing on their summer break, she said.

Shortly after breaching the windows, SWAT officers entered the apartment and found two children dead in one bedroom and two others dead in another.

A family in the USA has been ripped apart after a father killed his two children and their two half siblings in a suspected murder-suicide after a bloody 20-hour standoff with police.

He once showed up at a bar in DeBary that Lindsey knew Rondinelli would visit, but because of the restraining order she'd obtained, she told him to leave or she'd call police, so Lindsey left, per the deposition. He is expected to survive.

Mina identified the officer shot as Kevin Valencia, a two-year veteran of the Orlando police force. The officer has undergone surgery but he has been unable to communicate, Mina said. Then more police arrived, she said, and they cut off Valencia's shirt and bandaged the bullet wound to his neck before putting him in a police vehicle and speeding away.

Lindsey was arrested on felony charges in that case, which also triggered probation violation, but prosecutors decided not to file charges the following month after he explained that he was diabetic and had not taken his medicine.

Sandi Marti and her wife, Carry, claimed that they saw flashes of light and heard three loud bangs Monday night. The girlfriend left with the dogs and as she was departing she saw Lindsey carrying gasoline cans to the front door.

Officers tried to arrest Lindsey at the apartment when a shootout began. Then, they put him in a patrol vehicle and sped away.

In a deposition taken June 2009, Lindsey's former fiancee, Candace Rondinelli, told the court she wasn't surprised when Lindsey fled after burning her house down.

She said officers then went door-to-door evacuating residents from the scene of the standoff. Some were milling around nearby restaurant parking lots Monday morning, still wearing pajamas. They took the police officer down. About five blocks from the apartment, two police squad cars blocked the entrance to the street.

Neighbours in the Florida apartment complex described Lindsey as both nice and unusual. Several firetrucks lined the road.
