New Nice coach Patrick Vieira insists he does not want to be judged on his glittering playing career after taking over the hotseat at the Ligue 1 club.

Vieira was released from his Manchester City contract to leave their MLS sister club and return to France.

Torrent takes over NYCFC, which, as a part of City Football Group, is under the same ownership as Man City.

Torrent won 24 trophies alongside Guardiola, most recently helping City to the Premier League title in record-breaking fashion.

Add to that a 1998 World Cup winners' medal and success at Euro 2000 and Vieira's distinguished career is one that many will remember.

"I've come to know myself and my personality over the last three, four years on the coach's bench", Vieira said. Vieira's departure was announced earlier Monday. He has a very clear idea of the style of play he wants - he's a coach who will want to play the attacking and possession style of soccer that we want to continue to build upon.

"I am fulfilled, happy", said Vieira.

Announcing Vieira's departure on their official website, New York City were quick to thank the former World Cup and Premier League victor for his endeavours.

New York City FC have appointed Domenec Torrent as head coach, replacing the outgoing Patrick Vieira.

NYCFC (8-3-4, 28 points) now sit second in the Eastern Conference standings, two points behind Atlanta United.

The move makes sense in that both Man City and NYCFC are owned by the City Football Group. You are not only a great coach but also a fantastic person.

The announcement confirmed that three assistants - Christian Lattanzio, Kristian Wilson and Matt Cook - would be leaving with Vieira. "I think there's everything here that it takes to succeed".
