Belgium start their World Cup campaign next Monday against Panama in Sochi before facing Tunisia and England in Group G.

And Martinez said after the match: "Eden is okay, he had a little trouble, but it's nothing to worry about".

Costa Rica play Serbia on Sunday in their Group E opener.

The Sporting Lisbon winger, one of a number of current and former Premier League stars on display in the Belgian capital, watched the ball drop out of the sky and then guided it into the bottom corner from 19 yards.

A penalty appeal by Romelu Lukaku was rejected in the opening minutes, despite the striker appearing to be dragged to the floor.

Costa Rica took the lead with their only on-target effort of the first half when Vertonghen inadvertently teed up Ruiz - an unused substitute in the friendlies against Northern Ireland and England - in the 24th minute.

It was Chadli who provided the centre from the same flank for Lukaku to score his second five minutes into the second half, though he surprisingly passed up the opportunity to grab a hat-trick soon after, instead squaring the ball across for Batshuayi to tap home.

A worrying moment followed for Roberto Martinez a minute or so later, though, with Mertens being replaced by Batshuayi after picking up a knock.

Mertens turned provider three minutes before half-time, standing up a right wing cross onto which Lukaku pounced.

There is a minimum expectation placed upon a Belgium side that boasts the likes of Kevin De Bruyne, Thorgan's brother, Eden, Jan Vertonghen, Thibaut Courtois and Romelu Lukaku, with the nation seen as dark horses in a tournament field that includes several star-studded national teams.
