Despite his youth, Mbappe flew to Russian Federation on Monday as one of the tournament's most recognisable figures and was expected to play a key role in France's bid to win their second World Cup. Didier Deschamps' squad is brimming with talent, its strength in depth evident from some of the names who didn't make the final cut for Russian Federation - including Manchester United's Anthony Martial and Alexandre Lacazette of Arsenal.

France has been handed an injury scare with just two days to the kick off of World Cup in Russian Federation.

Here's hoping Mbappe's injury is nothing too serious.

But the Paris-Saint Germain winger later tweeted to say the injury was only a knock, and gave no indication that he could miss France's opener against Australia on Saturday.

But the 19-year-old sensation has provided a promising update and also sent a reassuring message to Rami.

Mbappe scored 13 goals and assisted a further eight in 27 Ligue 1 appearances for PSG last season, his first since sealing a £168million move from Monaco last summer. Along with Martial and Lacazette, Bayern Munich's Kingsley Coman was initially placed on a stand-by list by Deschamps following the announcement of his 23-man squad for the tournament.
