‘Avengers: Infinity War’ Soars to $2 Billion at Worldwide Box Office

The Marvel Studios blockbuster passed the $2 billion mark at the worldwide box office on Monday - its 48th day in theaters, Disney announced Tuesday.

While all the MCU films have had post-credits scenes that teased upcoming installments in an ever-expanding cinematic universe, Infinity War was the first film to end on a straight-up cliffhanger. That Marvel Studios standalone has amassed an astounding $699.3 million domestic, while Infinity War's domestic total now sits at $656.1 million.

Disney announced Tuesday that Infinity War reached the milestone in its 48th day of release, with a domestic total of $656.1 million and an global total of $1.35 billion. The highest domestic earner of all time is Star Wars: The Force Awakens with a total of $936,662,225.

Internationally, it is the third-highest grossing release ever with $1.346 billion, and its combined domestic and global debuts set a record of $640.5 million. Domestically the film notched $6.8 million this last weekend, and internationally the film pulled in another $10.9 million.

Avengers: Infinity War is one step closer to making infinity dollars. The film opened to a massive $199.3 million in China two weeks after the global debut and has gone on to become the third biggest release ever in the country with $369.7 million to date. The film was directed by Joe and Anthony Russo from a script by Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely. Everything the Avengers have fought for has led up to this moment - the fate of Earth and existence itself has never been more uncertain. Louis D'Esposito, Victoria Alonso, Michael Grillo and Stan Lee were the executive producers.

The currently-untitled Avengers 4 features a cast made up of numerous key players in Infinity War - alongside newcomers like Brie Larson and Evangeline Lilly - and is scheduled to hit theaters on May 3, 2019.
