Next year, the ILO will convene a Global Dialogue Forum on decent work in the management of e-waste, which is expected to generate new solutions and recommendations.

On the other hand, the rest ended up in landfills, oceans, pipelines, where it will take thousands of years to completely decompose leading to the massive growth of the plastic waste.

Similarly, another FMCG firm RB also committed to make 100 per cent of its plastic packaging to be recyclable or reusable by 2025.

The UN said more than 60 countries had introduced bans and levies on single-use plastic items like bags.

Environment Minister Catherine McKenna has previously said the charter would have four main components: targets for reducing the amount of plastic waste produced, domestic strategies to meet those targets, working with industry to develop better products to replace plastic or make plastics more easily recyclable and assistance for the developing world to adapt better waste management. Companies such as Nestle and Coca Cola have begun to use recycled plastic bottles for packing beverages and they have pledged to use more recycled plastic content in their beverage bottles instead of virgin plastic.

The waste management and recycling sector already employs over 500,000 people in Brazil and about the same number of workers in Bangladesh with the majority women, said the ILO.

The report said the five trillion plastic bags consumed each year equalled almost 10 million plastic bags per minute.

Arun Ravi, having experience in plastic waste recycling, who pursued a course in Plastics Processing and Testing from Central Institute of Plastics Engineering and Technology, said, "Plastic is present in nearly everything we use and its usage will continue. We plan to launch this pilot in the fourth quarter of 2018".

Prominent companies actively involved in the recycled plastic market have been profiled in the report.

In 2017, the company said it reduced packaging material weight by approximately 1,532 tonnes by ensuring eco designing of packaging in a sustainable way.

Plastic is a major threat to the oceans and to marine and wildlife.

The ILO has implemented successful projects around the world to support formalization in the waste management sector, skills' development and entrepreneurship.

Commenting on the initiatives, HMIL Director - Sales and Marketing Rakesh Srivastava said: "This year's theme is "Beating Plastic Pollution", for which we are exploring green alternatives to reduce the usage of plastics across all our offices, dealers and service networks".

The company, along with its vendor partners, will also opt for alternate packaging material for spare parts and usage of water-borne paints.
