Four years after he first announced that he had been diagnosed with cancer, John Bain - known online under the aliases TotalBiscuit and The Cynical Brit - has passed away. Was gonna try to do it after the movie but after hearing about John's death I am gonna take some time to mourn.

Bain leaves behind his wife, Genna, who has posted a series of heartbreaking tweets in tribute to her husband. TB had been battling with cancer for the last few years but continued to make videos, host tournaments and be a strong pro-consumer voice for gamers.

Bain had announced earlier this month he was retiring from games criticism as a result of his failing health. Later on, he turned his attention to YouTube, where he covered the WoW Cataclysm expansion, collaborated on Let's Play videos, critiqued many video games, introduced the long running Co-Optional Podcast and tackled industry topics.

His wife, Genna Bain, shared the unfortunate news on Twitter. As Kotaku reported, he was forced to retire from his work as a gaming critic, though he planned to continue his plans to make a video game alongside his wife.

A tweet on Thursday confirmed his death. He wrote a long reddit post at the start of May, where he said "I don't have long left", and wrote that his priority from then would be managing the amount of pain he was in. "I fully intend to be the outlier, the average is this way because most people that get this are old and not strong anymore". "Sad beyond words to hear this news", wrote YouTube comedian and reviewer Jonathan Jafari, better known as "JonTron". "I'm proud of what I do, and I enjoy it, and I know that I'm very blessed to be able to do it as a career".
