However, there is also the claim that Juventus are planning to tie down left-back Alex Sandro to a new contract, a move which dampens the Red Devils' hopes of signing the Brazilian this summer.

"Darmian could fit in terms of those opportunities, players and profiles we're looking for", the 61-year-old told reporters.

"If happiness means for them to leave let's see what happens. I don't want to sell, I want to keep [them]".

According to the Daily Mail, talks have taken place between United and Juventus for a £12 million deal with the Old Lady keen to react to the departure of Stefan Lichtsteiner.

But the deal will not include Alex Sandro, who has been targeted by United, with the Bianconeri insisting he remains a part of their future plans.

Mandzukic has spent the last three years at Juventus, but is thought to be keen on a new challenge.

Mario Mandzukic arrived at Juventus in the summer of 2015 after a 20-goal campaign in what was his only season in La Liga as he joined Atletico Madrid from Bayern Munich in 2014 before leaving for Italy.

At Manchester United, Jose Mourinho has Romelu Lukaku as the only recognised option upfront, especially with Marcus Rashford being used out wide by the manager.

The 28-year-old has shown promise at times but Mourinho limiting him to eight appearances seems the final straw for a player who deserves more. Thus, adding an experienced head like Mandzukic upfront could yield benefits a-la Zlatan Ibrahimovic's brief association with United. Have your say in the comments section below.
