Based on their most recent multiyear Academic Progress Rate, these teams have earned NCAA Public Recognition Awards for posting scores in the top 10 percent of their sport.

Georgia Tech volleyball, under head coach Michelle Collier, earned a Public Recognition Award for the third-straight year and fifth time overall while Alan Drosky's women's cross country squad received the award for the second year in a row and fifth time overall. The other teams include: North Carolina men's basketball, Clemson football, Arizona State women's golf, Oklahoma women's gymnastics and Florida women's tennis. "Coach Tramel, his student-athletes and the hard-working academic advisors in the Buck Harless Student-Athlete Program are worthy of this recognition for a job well done". Since the April program was put into place, the three Villanova programs which have earned public recognition awards most often are women's track & field (10 recognition awards), golf and men's tennis (nine recognition awards each). This year marks the first year in which the baseball program has been honored with a Public Recognition Award.

The elite level of academic achievement by Wildcats student-athletes surpassed another record-breaking milestone on Wednesday afternoon when Villanova led all Division I schools with the highest percentage of its sport programs earning NCAA Public Recognition Awards. The wrestling program has been recognized eight times, including each of the past four years, and the women's cross country program, directed by John Gondak, has been recognized seven times.

The APR measures eligibility, graduation and retention each term and provides a clear picture of the academic performance for each team in each sport.

Schools frequently tout April as a gauge of their academic success because athletes receive points for staying in school and for staying on pace to earn a degree within five years.

Each student receiving athletically related financial aid earns one point for staying in school and one point for remaining eligible.

The NCAA will release the latest full April data on Wednesday, May 23. The Nittany Lions have won 107 Big Ten championships or tournament titles since capturing their first crown in 1992-93, including conference titles in women's soccer, women's volleyball and wrestling in 2017-18.
