Described as the definitive story of the global superstar, the film features interviews with many of Houston's relatives and close acquaintances, two of whom make the claims against Warwick.

The trailer touches on multiple hot-button issues that surrounded Houston, as a disembodied voice fires off questions about drug choice, addiction, her relationships with Bobby Brown and Robyn Crawford. According to its synopsis, the film promises to be "an intimate, unflinching portrait of Houston and her family that probes beyond familiar tabloid headlines and sheds new light on the spellbinding trajectory of Houston's life". Another follows up, saying: "His heart was, he wanted to be on the stage". But there was a darker side to the success, as her career gave way to erratic behavior, scandals and eventually her death in 2012 at age 48.

The documentary - simply titled "Whitney" - was executive produced by the late singer's family and highlights her struggles with drug abuse, love and her rivalries with other stars at the time.

"There were always a lot of secrets", one Houston pal says in the new trailer. It also covers the depths Houston traveled to "lift up" her husband, Bobby Brown.

In the first teaser trailer released in April Houston's mother, Cissy Houston, says, "You have three places to sing from: heart, mind, guts".

We also hear the voices of fans and family members talking about the late singer's enormous talent, and we even hear Whitney herself. And she said to me, "I just don't understand what happened, she was the most lovely girl, ' and this was someone who knew her really well". "She's someone who has had such a big impact on culture but is not taken seriously".

The film is slated to hit screens on July 6 - after appearing at Cannes on Wednesday - and is the first to be officially blessed by Whitney's estate.
