Hull City goalkeeper Allan McGregor has completed a move back to Glasgow Rangers.

The 36-year-old left Rangers in 2012 during the club's financial meltdown and spent a year playing for Besiktas in Turkey, before joining Hull City the following season.

The Scotland goalkeeper became Steven Gerrard's second summer signing following the addition of midfielder Scott Arfield earlier this week.

'I can't keep the smile off my face, ' said McGregor.

Instead, the 36-year-old has made a decision to return to Rangers six years after quitting in the wake of the club's financial meltdown.

The Scotland global, who left Ibrox in the wake of the club's financial meltdown in 2012, rejected the offer of a new contract at Hull to head back to Glasgow.

It does. I started training here when I was probably 12. Just to be back, it's incredible.

"It will be great", he said. I think it's a big coup for the club and I've watched his interviews and I saw the fans afterwards and it was an wonderful time for them.

Gerrard formally takes charge on June 1 and McGregor is looking forward to a new era at Ibrox. Hopefully he will bring that winning mentality back. We need to make this place [Ibrox] a fortress where nobody wants to come, we need to win games, no matter who you are playing. If you keep doing that then we've seen before that is what wins you titles'.

"I've not spoken to [Gerrard] yet, but I'm sure we will be speaking fairly soon".

"Hopefully it will be a good partnership and I heard the coaching staff he is bringing are very good so that can only be a positive".
