One of the raccoons was said to have eaten one of the chickens being raised by the class.

"When the raccoons tried to come up for air they had metal rods and they held them down with metal rods and when the raccoon would try to pop its head up they held water hoses in its face to drown it", a parent told WKMG, which released a heavily censored clip of the incident in which no animals are visible. Her son informed her the creatures had been trapped in cages as they had been being drowned. The cell phone video shows the raccoons in a cage being immersed in water in a trash can and drowning in front of the class. 'It made me sick to my stomach'.

The Forest High School teacher, Dewie Brewton, was placed on administrative leave pending an investigation, per the Ocala StarBanner.

WMUR reported, the mother of the student recalled the events of the full video, claiming that when the raccoons attempted to come to the surface of the water to breathe, the students and teacher used metal rods to hold down the animals.

'It's bad. It still does make me sick to my stomach'.

The school board made a public statement letting the district know that, although the authorities indicate the teacher may not have broken the laws, "his actions before students are certainly questionable".

As of Tuesday night, he is on paid administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation.

'The district is determining the status of the teacher at this moment'. The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission is also looking into whether something illegal occurred. FWC Officers are investigating to see the legality of the issue that occurred. The findings will then be presented to the state attorney's office, WKMG reports. Dewie Brewton, an agriculture teacher, was working at the high school since 2006.

Some of Brewton's former students, meanwhile, have defended him as a teacher who has "gone above and beyond his call of duty" to help them.

A Forest Hill Excessive Faculty dad or mum informed FOX51 that her son took pictures of the harrowing acts with the animals.

"He has spent late nights, weekends and has provided around the clock support for his club and for his school", a post on the Forest High School FFA Alumni page reads.

The woman said two raccoons were drowned Monday and an opossum that was found later was killed "just for sport".
