Down the line, we will more than likely see Lando in his own film, but it won't be the next Star Wars solo movie. 'We would love to tell a story about Lando Calrissian one day, but it's not relevant, it would be fun to tell the story of Han and Chewie ...'" A different translation puts that new quote as "We would love to tell a story about Lando Calrissian one day, but this is not news.

Rumor started this morning of a Lando Calrissian movie as foretold by Lucasfilm head Kathleen Kennedy.

All throughout the marketing for Solo: A Star Wars Story, one thing has been Kyber crystal clear: Donald Glover is a flawless fit for a young Lando Calrissian.

USA Today said: "While Solo is a Star Wars movie that gambles on not really being a Star Wars movie, it's a winning chapter that only sparingly (though intriguingly) shows its hand in connecting to the bigger universe".

The publication later adjusted its article with the note: "Lucasfilm informs us that there would have been a misunderstanding between our journalist and Kathleen Kennedy".

Lucasfilm Shoots Down Report About Donald Glover's Lando Calrissian Spinoff Film

Starring Alden Ehrenreich as the young Han Solo, Donald as Lando, and Emilia Clarke, the new movie is already on track to make $150 million (£170 million) at the box office which would just about take over the $155 million (£110 million) debut for Rogue One: A Star Wars Story which hit cinemas in December 2016.

Depending on your (certain point of view) next could mean a great many things. It is the second in a series of planned standalone "Star Wars" movies meant to exist outside the main trilogies.

There had been speculation online that the next Star Wars spin-off (meaning a film not part of the franchise's core Skywalker saga, such as The Force Awakens or The Last Jedi) would be dedicated to Obi-Wan Kenobi, possibly bringing back Ewan McGregor to reprise his role from the prequel trilogy.

It's evident that Donald Glover portrays Lando Calrissian flawlessly, but could a Lando movie work in terms of great storytelling? A Lando film is but the next logical step.

As told and re-told by French cinema publication Premiere, Kennedy acknowledged the reality that a Lando movie would be an enjoyable endeavor. Oh, and while you're at it Mrs. Kennedy, confirm the Obi-Wan standalone story.
