The surprise surrounding Bethesda's Rage 2 announcement was slightly dampened by a leak.

What is clear at this point is that the game is now in the works, and the first trailer released on May 14 shows loads of live action, with characters fighting, prancing around, wielding weapons, and indicating a great deal of excitement.

So it's possible that the Rage 2 gameplay launches at the same time today.

After the success of Rage a sequel was planned but was cancelled in 2012 as id chose instead to focus on DOOM.

Bethesda has now officially announced the game by releasing its first trailer alongside a new page on the Bethesda website letting us know a few more details, including Avalanche Studios, responsible for the 2015 open-world Mad Max game, are developing the Rage 2. Driving might not be the first thing that you think of when you see a first-person shooter, but its importance can't be understated, especially when it comes to Rage.

There was no word on who is developing Rage 2 or what platforms were planned for the sequel, though the apparent accidental update to the sequel's official website has made those uncertain points clear. Rage 2 is set in an open-world, a wasteland of varied locations and many factions vying for control of what's left of humanity. It is also familiar with post-apocalyptic settings having developed Mad Max.

Walmart leaked it, Twitter teased it, and Bethesda confirmed it, all within the space of a week.

RAGE 2 is scheduled to hit Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC in 2019.

They also tweeted "See the gameplay trailer tomorrow, even if it leaks early".
