Mercedes Door Open for Ricciardo

Ahead of the weekend, Pirelli's Mario Isola insisted that the change was "not a change that any of the drivers will notice in terms of performance or stint length".

"Obviously we have different tyres because Pirelli reacted to the issues Mercedes had and Red Bull had in testing".

By his statements, Wolff was referring to Lewis Hamilton and Valtteri Bottas.

Lewis Hamilton's lights-to-flag win, achieved with a comfortable advantage over team mate Valtteri Bottas and Mercedes' rivals Red Bull and Ferrari, suggests all is well once again at the German team after a winless first three races.

When asked if Pirelli had altered the tyres "to help Mercedes" after he took pole position for this afternoon's race, an unimpressed Hamilton responded: "That was a stupid question really, so I don't really have an answer for it".

Mercedes executive Toto Wolff has opened the door for Daniel Ricciardo at Mercedes.

"Is b******s a bad word in English?" said the Austrian. "Rubbish. All teams had blistering, very heavy blistering at the test in Barcelona".

"The ambient and track temperatures [in testing] were arctic, Baltic, and for that reason, Pirelli changed the thickness of the tyre to prevent blistering".

"The ink is nearly dry, and when it is, we'll let you know". I've never seen anything like it. Why would they do it?

He added: "If we were to look at others, Daniel is definitely among them". "We wanted to take care of the racing car.The ink is nearly dry, and when it is, we'll let you know", Wolff said. "We didn't have a default mode of asking what are the others doing that was wrong". "This is a track where we were quick in winter testing, which has been resurfaced and the ambience is cold".

"I think it was exceptional that Mercedes was struggling in the last events as much as they were but thinner thread, basically the tyres are harder so we still have the same tyres if you look at the colours but they're harder than they're used to be".
