The series is ushering in a new dawn of trans and queer person of color visibility on television.

Pose also features the largest transgender series regular cast, as well as the largest LGBTQ cast ever for a scripted series. "James Van Der Beek will play Peters" financial kingpin boss and Billy Porter has been cast as ballroom MC Pray Tell.

That ensemble is joined by Murphy favorite Evan Peters, whose burgeoning romantic entanglement with Indya Moore's character is glimpsed in the trailer, as well as Kate Mara.

The city is NY, the year is 1987, and the story is about the intersection of various social scenes - including ball culture.

"Focus, children", Dominique Jackson, one of the many trans actors tapped for this series, says in the preview. Ballroom culture is foreign to him, so he asks what is a ball, a question probably numerous trailer's viewers also have. "Balls are gatherings of people who are not welcome to gather anywhere else", she says.

Ryan Murphy's upcoming FX series Pose spotlights the ball culture of the 1980s, juxtaposed with the economic boom that gave birth to the yuppies.

Co-creator Steven Canals has been writing scripts for the series with Our Lady J (Transparent) as well as with transgender rights activist and New York Times best-selling author Janet Mock. In addition, Pose is partnering with Murphy's Half Foundation to mentor trans directors.

The dance musical series premieres Sunday, June 3, on FX.
