The platform is based on the Q Inspiration concept vehicle that was unveiled at this year's Detroit auto show to presage a next-generation top-tier sedan.

Representing the next step in Infiniti design, the exterior of the Q Inspiration features clear and concise lines with dynamic and confident proportions.

"The Q Inspiration concept auto takes the traditional sedan architecture to its next stage of evolution", said Karim Habib, INFINITI executive design director.

INFINITI will produce an electrified vehicle in China-one of five new vehicles it will build in China over the next five years-on this new platform at a site still to be announced.

The Beijing motor show will be the first time Infiniti will show off its all-new QX50 premium SUV in Asia, with local production of the vehicle expected to begin shortly at the company's manufacturing facility in Dalian.

While the original Q Inspiration was designed around Infiniti's unique variable compression ratio engine, the company sees its "compact on the outside, spacious on the inside" body packaging as compatible with any number of compact powertrains, including a fully electric one. The concept eschews classical sedan forms with its coupe-like appearance and elongated silhouette, presenting Infiniti's design vision for vehicles in this segment. "With its long cabin, balanced proportions and muscular stance, the concept heralds in a new era for INFINITI models." said Karim Habib, INFINITI Executive Design Director. The sedan will be manufactured in China at a location to be announced.

The new platform will be created to house two different powertrains that will drive all newly redesigned Infiniti vehicles for 2021: Either a pure electric, battery-driven motor, or Nissan's e-Power range extender hybrid setup.

INFINITI Motor Company has just announced that it's going to have a crack at the electric vehicle market. For Chinese car-buyers, this translates into vehicles with increased performance and fuel economy with reduced emissions.
