The body of a missing Virginia toddler was discovered in a suitcase in New Jersey some eight months after the little girl disappeared.

The exact cause and nature of the child's death are pending, but police believe she did not die in New Jersey, Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez said in the statement. Police in Richmond, Virginia, had announced in March that they were seeking the public's help in locating Plummer and her father, Travis Plummer.

They had not been seen since August, according to the press release, when it was believed they had moved to Charlotte-Mecklenburg County, North Carolina, area or Jersey City. He's been charged with desecrating human remains.

The father is still missing, WABC reported.

The baby's remains were found near PATH train tracks in Jersey City by a Port Authority employee on April 11 while he was conducting a routine inspection of train tracks in Jersey City.

On Monday night Suarez identified the child as Te-Myah Layaunna Plummer, who was born on May 19, 2016.

Richmond police said at the time that they did not believe the two were in danger, but wanted "to confirm that (Te'Myah) is safe", Richmond police Sgt.

Hudson County officials say that during the investigation law enforcement officers were contacted by Richmond police about a missing persons case.
