The referral comes after the recent blistering IG report claiming McCabe "lacked candor" about his interactions with Wall Street Journal reporter Devlin Barrett, who was writing about the Clinton Foundation and Hillary Clinton's private email server.

"We were advised of the referral within the past few weeks", Bromwich said. House members found, in their referral to AG Sessions, FBI Director Wray, and U.S. Attorney Huber that Comey provided to a friend of his four of seven memoranda, "encouraging him to detail the memos to the press".

The U.S. attorney's office and a spokesman for the inspector general declined to comment for this article.

Nonetheless, he said Tuesday on ABC's "The View" that he had ordered the investigation into McCabe. McCabe asked the official: "Are you telling me that I need to shut down a validly predicated investigation?" "It is about time we have now some accountability for one of these conduct on the Justice Division", he mentioned.

The IG found that McCabe "lacked candor" when discussing his leaking of confidential information to The Wall Street Journal.

Ron Hosko, a former FBI deputy director, said he doesn't expect Mr. McCabe to face criminal charges since the accusations against him stem from a civil matter and not a criminal investigation. McCabe testified before the House Intelligence Committee for ten hours on Tuesday.

McCabe's camp says he did nothing wrong - that he was within his rights as deputy director to authorize disclosures to the press and that he told the truth about the case.

"The rush to judgment - and the rush to terminate Mr. McCabe - were unprecedented, unseemly, and cruel", Michael Bromwich, an attorney for McCabe, said in a statement.

Attorney General Jeff Sessions fired McCabe from the Federal Bureau of Investigation last month, just 26 hours before McCabe could retire, denying McCabe some of his retirement benefits and reigniting the political firestorm that has long surrounded the former Federal Bureau of Investigation official.

However, McCabe & has criticized and rsquo; s legal counsel has blasted the inspector overall report.

"DOJ just issued the McCabe report - which is a total disaster".

In an interview with CNN Thursday, Comey mentioned that he had no data of the referral, however confirmed that he could possibly be a witness towards McCabe if he's prosecuted. "No collusion, all made up by this den of thieves and lowlifes!"

"At worst, I was not clear in my responses, and because of what was going on around me may well have been confused and distracted-and for that I take full responsibility", Mr. McCabe wrote in a column for the Washington Post last month. Following his firing, McCabe set up a GoFundMe page to cover his legal expenses.

It is up to the U.S. Attorney in D.C.to decide if criminal charges are warranted.

The inspector general concluded that that engagement initiated by Mr. McCabe had not been justified under the media policy of the F.B.I. and Justice Department and constituted misconduct. "Judicial Watch uncovered documents about McCabe's conflicted handling of the Clinton investigation that should have triggered action months ago".

This is a developing story and will be updated.
