Hearthstone has been a part of Blizzard's lineup for almost five years, but Game Director Ben Brode has been a constant presence at Blizzard even before the digital card game's inception.

Brode, who has worked on Hearthstone for 10 of his 15 years at Blizzard, shared all of this in a heartfelt post on the Hearthstone forums, tracing back the path his career has taken and thanking his coworkers and the Hearthstone community for their support. The always-smiling Ben is ready to take his own risks and help create a new game developing company, as Hearthstone is now in capable hands.

"Man, that was a hard sentence to type". He said he is proud of Hearthstone, a game that "touches so many people", but he's even prouder of the team behind it. A great team can do great things, and I think the Hearthstone team is the greatest. It isn't just a job.

"I am very fortunate to be able to take a insane risk right now in my life, and I'm excited to be scrappy and a little scared". We get to come to work and focus on the game we love and try to make it better every day. Though he doesn't specifically say what this company will do, he notes that it will probably make games, and that he's looking forward to acting as a designer again - something that he probably didn't have much opportunity to do as the director of one of Blizzard's biggest games. "I'm going to miss the on-campus Starbucks, though".

"Blizzard, thank you for taking a chance on me, and thank you for taking a chance on Hearthstone". It'll be interesting to see what Ben Brode does next, so you can bet that we'll be keeping an eye out for news from his new company.
