Police are appealing for witnesses after a man and a woman were assaulted during an incident in which a bus lane camera was attacked in west Belfast.

Remarkable mobile phone footage shows the moment a man jumped on top of a traffic enforcement camera vehicle and started trashing it.

There was a woman inside the vehicle during the attack, according to Belfast Live and she was reportedly grabbed by the throat when she got out of the auto.

It is not known what caused the shocking incident, which happened in broad daylight in Belfast on Tuesday.

The pair were filmed fighting in the street, with the driver landing a punch to the other man's head.

According to Belfast Live, the attack, which took place on the Falls Road on Tuesday afternoon, occurred during a "risk assessment" being carried out because a lone female warden's auto was targeted in a hammer attack back in March.

"The people who carry out these attacks do not speak for the West Belfast community and they need to stop immediately".

This is the second time a bus lane camera vehicle has been attack in the area in the last month.

"The safety of staff in carrying out their work is a priority".

"The incident is being investigated by the PSNI".
