You've heard much talk about the Hyperloop, the transportation system that promises to bring you from Abu Dhabi to Dubai in just 12 minutes, and now some concrete dates have been released.

Developer Aldar Properties has signed a MoU with Hyperloop Transportation Technologies (HyperloopTT), which will see the development of a new urban centre based around an extension of the HyperloopTT system that will serve its Alghadeer community.

Construction will start on the border of Abu Dhabi and Dubai, in Aldar's Seih Al Sdeirah landbank, close to residential development Alghadeer, the Expo 2020 site and Al Maktoum International Airport and would presumably link these key locations. "With regulatory support, we hope the first section will be operational in time for Expo 2020", said Bibop Gresta, chairman of HyperloopTT. This project is in Al Ghadeer, but we want to extend this line to Yas Island and connect the airport.

The MoU, when fully executed, will allow for the creation of a new HyperloopTT centre including; a full scale commercial Hyperloop system, an Hyperloop R&D Advanced Mobility Centre, a Demonstration & Visitor centre, and an Innovation Hub.

Elaborating on the first phase, Gresta said: "HyperloopTT has been in the region for over two years".

"Right now, this is the biggest project, but we will have other projects in future". They said they've been working in the country since 2016, and have finished a comprehensive feasibility study, working with Abu Dhabi's Department of Transportation. "We opened the first facility to build full-scale prototype in Toulouse (France)". The capsule will be assembled and optimised in Toulouse, France, prior to use in the emirates.

The U.A.E. could soon witness the world's first commercial hyperloop that could revolutionize travel for commuters between Dubai and Abu Dhabi, slashing travel time between the emirates.

Lauding the deal, HyperloopTT CEO Dirk Ahlborn stated that a forward-thinking nation like the UAE was ideal for building the most revolutionary, most efficient, and fastest transportation system in the world.
