Man City Win Title As Man United Lose At Home

City were confirmed as PL champions after Manchester United suffered a shock defeat at home to bottom club West Bromwich Albion on Sunday.

West Brom: Foster, Nyom, Dawson, Hegazi, Gibbs, Phillips (Krychowiak 77), Livermore, Brunt (Yacob 90), McClean, Rodriguez, Rondon (Sturridge 85). United is now just one point above third-place Liverpool.

United have 71 also with five to play.

United's insipid half was then summed up when Paul Pogba received a yellow card for inexplicably trying to convert a deep cross with his hand.

It wasn't the best day for Romelu Lukaku against his former club, either.

However, United's record £89m signing followed it up with a underwhelming display on the left of midfield in a 4-3-3 system.

Few minutes later McClean nearly doubled West Brom's lead but his low shot went just wide of the target.

Manchester City can still break all the Premier League records if they so please having wrapped up the title with five games to spare.

Mourinho called his players the "masters of complicated football" but that was being generous after one of the more startling displays of his two years in charge.

"Everything was slow, one more flick, trick, turn. We did not deserve to lose, but we gave them opportunity to win the match".

"They always had time to organise themselves".

"Normally, we are going to have more of the ball and, normally, it's when we need somebody from the back to add extra technical quality in the middle of the back [four]".

Victory against Spurs at Wembley had given City an unassailable position to clinch the title.

Darren Moore has taken two matches to equal Alan Pardew's total number of Premier League wins (one in 18 games) as West Brom manager.

United pushed numbers forward in the closing stages, but Foster never really looked in danger of being tested again as United succumbed to a defeat that was celebrated by the blue half of Manchester with even more vigour than usual.

"Our Time. Our City".

Manchester City have became the Premier League champions.

Guardiola might not have seen Jay Rodriguez's 73rd-minute winning goal at Old Trafford because he was playing golf with his son instead of watching the match.

City captain Vincent Kompany led the celebrations, tweeting: "Champions!"

But, just a week after spoiling City's title party by beating their local rivals 3-2 at the Etihad, the way United abjectly gifted the title to their neighbours will sting. You win, of course, with quality, but with consistency in every level, not just the performance level but also the mental level.
