The two games are acclaimed open world action adventures that combine jujitsu combat, investigative sleuthing, RPG elements, and memorable mini-games. The re-release will stay true to the originals with modernised features including fully scalable screen resolution, choice of modern or classic control schemes, PC graphics options, an updated user interface and the option to enjoy either the original Japanese or English voiceovers.

Shenmue 1 and 2 will be re-released later this year on Windows PC, Xbox One and PS4, Sega has confirmed.

The news comes at a time when their sequel Shenmue 3 is under development for the PS4 and PC, and raring to be released this year. Though the titles will be somewhat modernized, SEGA also emphasized that the releases are not full-fledged remasters.

d3t, the developer behind the port, describes itself as a work-for-hire team, and has lent support to such studios as Boss Key Productions on Lawbreakers, Sony on the VR version of Super Stardust, and Amazon (via Realtime UK) for the Lost technical demo of the Lumberyard Engine.

This announcement was made during the Sega Fes event in Japan, and although a proper date hasn't been mentioned, it has been made clear that the games will be arriving later in 2018.
