OLIVIER GIROUD is refusing to let Chelsea give up on even the slightest chance of Champions League qualification. Willian and Eden Hazard are pretty much certain to start on the left and right wing respectively with Alvaro Morata getting another opportunity to lead the line.

The France striker then channelled that never-say-die spirit again when insisting the Blues can not admit defeat in their top-four quest, despite still trailing fourth-placed Tottenham by seven points, with only five games remaining. "The most important thing is never give up, believe in our quality, play our game and I am proud of what we have done today with our unbelievable support". Play the games one by one and we've got maybe five or six finals to play.

The Nigeria worldwide was thrown into the game in the 86th in place of Eden Hazard at a time when both teams were cautiously playing to see off regulation time.

Chelsea looked destined to suffer a sixth defeat from nine league outings when Jan Bednarek put Saints 2-0 up after an hour, but Antonio Conte's decision to throw Giroud on from the bench proved a masterstroke.

'Obviously I was waiting for that, ' Giroud added. "I tried so many times to put it in the back of the net but sometimes you need a bit of luck".

"I'm very happy for him [Giroud]", said Conte in his post-match press conference. The thing is as a striker you need to keep going and keep the confidence high.

"I always say that competition is good and nice for a striker because it forces you to improve and step up".

Saturday's clash might as well pass for some form of rehearsal as both teams again go head to head at Wembley next week in their FA Cup semi-final. I think we've still got enough to get out of this'.
