Missouri basketball welcomes a familiar name to the roster, Mark Smith.

Unfortunately for everybody involved, Smith lasted only one season at IL. He took an official visit to Missouri on Saturday, then quickly made a decision to join the Tigers and coach Cuonzo Martin, an East St. Louis native.

In his senior year of high school, he earned the 2017 Illinois Gatorade Player of the Year Honors.

The Tigers went 20-13 overall this season and advanced for the NCAA Tournament for the first time since the 2012-13 season.

The 6-foot-4 guard finished the season with averages of 5.8 points, 1.4 rebounds and 1.4 assists per game while shooting 33.7 percent from the field and 23.2 percent on 3-pointers.

IL finished 14-18 overall and 4-14 in the Big Ten.

Smith ranked seventh on the team in minutes per game at 19.1.

Smith scored 17 points in an 82-69 victory at UNLV on December 10, and had 11 points in the Braggin' Rights win over Missouri on December 23. He scored 21 points in a win against DePaul and 17 in a loss to UNLV but did not score more than eight points against a Big Ten opponent. Richmond also left the Illini after one season.

The former Fighting Illini guard announced he will be transferring to Mizzou.
