Man arrested for molesting woman during IPL match in Mumbai

A temporary employee of a catering agency, who allegedly molested a 22-year-old college student who had gone to watch the IPL match at Wankhede stadium, was arrested by the Marine Drive police on Sunday.

The incident took place near the Sachin Tendulkar stand. Satnami, a resident of south Mumbai's Masjid Bunder area, works for a contractor and was distributing water at food stalls in the stadium. At around 8pm when she was watching the match, she noticed that the same man with a bottle of water in his hand approached her and tried to hand over her a bottle of water. However, even after she declined, he kept loitering around her seat and later misbehaved with her.

She followed Satnami till she spotted some policemen and asked them to stop the accused. Confirming the incident, the Zonal Deputy Commissioner of Police Manoj Kumar said the man had touched her inappropriately while she was watching the match with her friends.

Alarmed by the woman's shouting, the man ran away from the scene. She raised an alarm, after which cops caught the accused and booked him for molestation.

The police added that the victim had denied water from the Satnam, but the latter forced the woman to drink the water. The court has sent him to two-day police custody. "We have registered a case and have arrested the accused", A police officer hailing from the Marine Drive police station said to DNA.
