He did this as a prelude to an offer he hopes Blockbuster management can't refuse - Russel Crowe's jockstrap from the movie Cindarella Man, free of charge.

Last Week Tonight pledged to donate the goods to a worthy cause.

Fast forward several weeks to the date of the auction, where someone reportedly purchased that jockstrap for $7,000.

The segment was proceeded by a unusual but fascinating short bit on the last remaining Blockbuster video stores in the country - mostly located in Alaska where internet for streaming is sparse. "Even that sentence is absolutely incredible to say out loud".

Comedian John Oliver is now the proud owner of the leather jockstrap worn by Russell Crowe during the filming of his 2005 boxing drama, Cinderella Man.

Why we care: Newly crowned rap queen Cardi B recently opined in an Instagram video about paying taxes: "I want to fucking know WHAT YA DOING WITH MY FUCKING MONEY!"

Oliver then revealed that he'd actually bought a bunch of the memorabilia, including Crowe and Denzel Washington's chairs from the set of "American Gangster" and the vest Crowe wore in the film "Les Miserables". Because streaming services are extra expensive in Alaska, Blockbuster still reigns there, and Oliver promised that if Alaska's remaining Blockbuster contacted the show, they'd be able to display Crowe's memorabilia there. The store is scheduled to open at 10 a.m. Monday.
