The Belgium worldwide, on-loan at Borussia Dortmund from Chelsea, suffered an ankle injury in Sunday's loss to Schalke.

The Belgian striker, on loan from Chelsea, injured his ankle against Schalke on the weekend. Borussia Dortmund loanee Michy Batshuayi will miss the rest of the club season and is a doubt to represent Belgium at the World Cup after injuring ankle ligaments during Sunday's derby against Schalke.

Batshuayi is expected to return to Chelsea for the remainder of the season in hope that the medical team at Stamford Bridge can get him back to fitness as soon as possible. A commitment for the Belgium national team at the World Cup in Russian Federation is still in the range of possibility.

"We hope that it is not so bad, but we have to wait for the exact investigation", he said, as revealed by the Mirror. I can't yet say anything specific, other than the fact that he's in pain and will now be examined in more detail.

Borussia Dortmund manager Peter Stoger fears Michy Batshuayi could face a "long time" on the sidelines.

The 24-year-old scored nine goals in 14 games, including seven in the Bundesliga, after arriving at Dortmund as a replacement for Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

But Belgium worldwide Batshuayi faces a battle to recover from injury in time for the World Cup after suffering the injury in a heavy challenge from Benjamin Stambouli.
