"I'm still about a month away", he told TV Globo.

Neymar has announced he believes he needs "about a month" before he can return from the fractured metatarsal and sprained ankle he suffered in February.

Neymar's comments were released as a short extract from a pre-recorded interview that will be broadcast on Saturday, and which may give a clearer picture of the former Barcelona forward's state of fitness.

The 26-year-old sustained the injury playing for Paris Saint-Germain against Marseille.

This season's biggest objective disappeared when Real Madrid eliminated PSG in the Champions League, but this campaign is not totally lost for the French giants. "Perhaps he'll have time to play a few matches before the end of the season", Emery said.

"Neymar's close to returning", said coach Unai Emery. PSG have six titles and want to win this season to keep catching up and to ultimately become the most successful team in league history.

The last round of games in the Ligue 1 season are scheduled for May 19, but Neymar faces a race against time to play any part.

"He had a good medical examination and, when he gets here, I'm sure he will want to play".

A win for PSG will open up a 17-point advantage with just 15 left to play for and a draw would mean that Monaco could only hope to finish level on points at best.

"The speed of recovery in the next 10 days will set the optimum date to start training without restriction".

The two sides meet in the French top-flight on Sunday evening with PSG knowing that a victory over their league rivals would see them take the title back from Leonardo Jardim's men at the first time of asking.
