THE Minister of Mines and Steel Development, Dr Kayode Fayemi, has visited the secretariat of his party, the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ado Ekiti to formally state his intent to contest the July 14, 2018 governorship election and said he was running to rescue the state from alleged misrule by the current administration in the state.

Fayemi told the crowd that he was coming back because the Ekiti governorship was "an unfinished business, saying "I came with a profound sense of unfinished business and we have to finish what we have started".

He said the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) should expect another transparent, free and fair election like the one it conducted and won by its then candidate, Governor Fayose. Between their white paper and our red card, we will know the one that's most potent.

Traffic was grounded for about four hours in Ado-Ekiti, the state capital, where a massive crowd which overwhelmed the city, turned out to hear Fayemi speak on his agenda for the state.

"Those of us who travelled out of Ekiti are being insulted, assaulted and mocked on a daily basis, with people asking why Ekiti indigenes, which they thought were well read, refined and exposed, could make a character like Ayodele Fayose their governor".

"Under my government, I increased the salary of workers from N5,000 to N7,000 and from N7,000 to N13,000 and later N19,300".

Fayemi alleged that the election was manipulated by soldiers in connivance with Fayose and two former ministers.

He was governor between October 16, 2010 and October 15, 2014, after he was defeated by Mr. Fayose at the polls.

Ayo Fayose is governor of the state presently under the control of the PDP. If I had not done their roads, I would have built schools, or renovated their hospitals, but today, nothing is happening.

According to her, she is in the race to bridge the gap between the people of the state and the government and to improve the well-being of the people of the state, lamenting that most Ekiti graduates are now "Okada" riders.

The former governor was joined by his wife, Bisi; former deputy governor, Prof.

"Buhari is our leader, he is our President and he is the leader of our party".

Fayemi had on April 2, during the quarterly meeting of the Ekiti APC leaders at his Isan Ekiti country home, indicated that he would be seeking APC's ticket to return as the state governor.

"So, at my level, at 57, I am not a cripple, I am not a baby, I don't need crutches, I don't have to be the President's candidate".

"Every time I move around, I see the suffering and penury our people are going through". I saw their pain and pangs of not knowing where the next meal will come from.

He said that the PDP-led administration has plunged the state and its people into unimaginable misery and poverty. During my time, education was free up to SSS 3.

"The state is no longer moving forward just because a charlatan is in the saddle. Sad". They will accuse us of so many things. Although power belongs to God and he gives it to whosoever he wishes.

"Anywhere Ekiti people go, people subject us to questions that what is wrong with you Ekiti people?"

"They have the white paper". Their white paper is nothing but a tissue paper. "We will ensure that he will end up in jail".

"That is why it is important for us to reclaim our land and restore our values".

"There is much that we have to fix and redress in Ekiti before we can go forward". "Actually we are contesting against the governor".
