Ant McPartlin will return to Britain's Got Talent — ITV's big call

Britain's Got Talent 2018's launch date and time has been confirmed by ITV.

The show has been surrounded by controversy after Declan Donnelly's presenting partner Ant McPartlin, 42, was charged with drink-driving following a three-car crash which led to a four-year-old child being taken to hospital.

It would be a nightmare to edit the presenter from hours of footage, after he was charged with drink driving, so his role in the London, Manchester and Belfast auditions will air as planned.

The TV presenter, who has been a part of duo Ant and Dec for almost 30 years, was due to appear at Wimbledon Magistrates' Court on Wednesday charged with the offence.

It's now being reported that officials made a decision to push Ant's court date back two weeks to allow him more time to complete the "intensive" phase of his rehab course.

"He has spoken with Dec and ITV today and asked for time off for the foreseeable future". ITV bosses were reportedly impressed by Dec's solo appearance on Saturday Night Takeaway that they are keen for him to front the live shows without Ant.

'The bosses at ITV loved him and want him back on screens as soon as possible, and Simon Cowell totally agrees that he's the best man for the job rather than bringing in a new face'.

The source added: "That's not to say people didn't miss Ant, but the overwhelming response was that Dec was fantastic solo too".

While Declan confirmed on social media he would continue presenting Saturday Night Takeaway without Ant, it is unknown whether he could be joined on stage on Britain's Got Talent, which returns on April 14.

Following Ant's arrest he cancelled all his upcoming TV commitments for the foreseeable future - Declan Donnelly is now in Orlando preparing for this weekend's Saturday Night Takeaway finale from Universal Studios.
