This includes "Firefly" actor and conservative Adam Baldwin, who once compared gay marriage to incest. The tweet was still online at the time of writing.

Some of the survivors of the February 14 shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Fla., have emerged as voices for change to USA gun control laws.

Gonzalez spoke with other Parkland, Florida, students on Saturday at a protest in Washington to demand action on gun control.

CNN found several posts questioning Gonzalez' real nationality, spreading conspiracy theories claiming she's an illegal immigrant and hurling anti-Semitic insults at her and her father. Her father sought refuge from Fidel Castro's regime in Cuba by moving to NY in 1968.

Gonzalez was also subject of another dubious meme over the weekend. Alongside a photo of Gonzalez, who wore a Cuban flag patch, the page noted Gonzalez's Cuban heritage and stated her "ancestors fled the island when the dictatorship turned Cuba into a prison camp, after removing all weapons from its citizens".

A Cuban flag was one of many patches on the 17-year-old's jacket.

The meme attracted outrage from some in the comments section, but the person managing the page defended it. "It's calling attention to the truth, but we understand that lefties find that offensive".

Mr King is also known for his anti-immigration comments. The social media platform is popular with figures of the far right who have been banned from Twitter.

Eagles of Death Metal singer Jesse Hughes, whose band was playing during the Bataclan attack in Paris, also shared the video on Instagram, the Guardian reports.

He has since deleted the post. A Republican candidate for Maine's House of Representatives called her a "skinhead lesbian" and "bald-faced liar" earlier this month.
