Shooting Reported at Oaks Mall in Thousand Oaks, California

One person has been killed and a second injured after reports of gunfire at a Thousand Oaks mall Saturday afternoon.

The county fire department says the victim who was injured at The Oaks mall in Thousand Oaks, California, was being taken to a hospital.

He says the couple have children, who have been found and are safe.

The sheriff's department received a call of shots fired at the mall inside the Paper Source Store, where the victim reportedly worked. The gun was recovered at the scene.

Authorities are setting up a safety zone across the street.

Jeffrey Simpson was inside a department store at a Southern California mall when it suddenly went into lockdown. They were in the store for more than an hour but shoppers were free to move around and employees were helping people stay comfortable and calm, Simpson said.

"It sounded like balloons or firecrackers. we didn't know what was going on", Beaton said.

According to KNBC, the incident occurred around 3 p.m.at the Oaks Shopping Center.

The outdoor portion of the mall will remain closed indefinitely will police investigate.
