The High-Efficiency Image File Format (HEIF) has finally arrived for Windows 10 and the photos app. HEIF is an image container that leverages modern codecs like HEVC to improve quality, compression, and capabilities compared to earlier formats like JPEG, GIF, and PNG. Along with the traditional single images, HEIF supports encoding images sequences, image collections, auxiliary images, such as alpha or depth maps, live images, video, audio and HDR for greater contrast.

We fixed an issue resulting in a permanently black window if you dragged a tab out of a Microsoft Edge window, pulled it up to the top edge of the screen, and moved it back down and released it.

Of course you can still use an alternative browser for all your other web surfing needs, but if Edge isn't your program of choice and you spend a lot of time clicking on links from your inbox, it's easy to imagine this is going to get pretty annoying very quickly. This version of the Photos app has been updated for RS4 to support viewing the primary image inside a HEIF file and to guide the install of dependencies like the HEIF and HEVC media extensions from the Microsoft Store. With the addition of HEIF support, Microsoft has added other features in this build.

The RS5 for Microsoft Windows 10 build 17623 is for Windows insider.

In order to safely remove an external graphics card, all you need to do is go to the "Safely Remove Hardware and Eject Media" icon and click to eject your GPU. It alerts users about running applications on the external GPUs to avoid losing data during disconnection. As usual, let us know in the comments if you're encountering any issues after installing this build on your PC. If however, there are no applications now running on your external graphics device then no dialog will appear and you can safely detach your external GPU. Microsoft has released four major updates so far: November Update, Anniversary Update, Creators Update, and Fall Creators Update. It also includes the privacy-setup changes around Inking & Typing and Find My Device that Microsoft added recently to Redstone 4.

The Windows Defender Application Guard (WDAG) Team has now introduced new improvements for a better experience. Microsoft also has updated the Cortana section in its Settings in this build so it's now called "Cortana & Search".

First the new features. This includes the links to get themes and fonts from the Microsoft Store, as well as the link to Windows Defender. Any file-on-demand from OneDrive that is already downloaded to the PC should open fine.

We fixed an issue resulting in a bug check with the error message SECURE_KERNEL_ERROR in recent flights. Microsoft is looking for feedback from the Windows Insiders and if the votes are against the change, it won't be implemented in the public version of Windows 10 operating system. Windows and Office are continually looking for the best-connected experiences. Based on the Feedback, Microsoft would decide whether to give it a green signal or not.
