Johnsonville recalls some sausages due to pieces of plastic

Johnsonville is recalling almost 110,000 pounds of a smoked pork sausage product that may contain a foreign matter.

The fully cooked pork sausage items were made on January 4, 2018. The recall includes 14-oz. six-piece package of Jalapeno Cheddar Smoked Sausage with a best by date of April 4, 2018.

The Batch ID is listed as 1001124486 or 1001124487 and it will have establishment number "EST".

The U.S. Department of Agriculture's Food Safety and Inspection Service announced the nationwide recall in a Thursday, March 15 news release. It was shipped to retail locations in 36 states.

The recalled product amounts to 12,500 cases (109,603 pounds) and represents a fraction of Johnsonville's overall production.

Johnsonville has received three reports of hard green plastic chunks in the sausage produced on that day.

The investigation is continuing, Seifert said.

Consumers who have purchased these products are urged not to consume them.
