VA Secretary needs to go

President Trump is considering replacing embattled Veterans Affairs Secretary David Shulkin with Energy Secretary Rick Perry. Russian Federation concedes "dozens" of civilians injured in Syria clash MORE to the White House last week and told him to stop creating drama in his agency, Axios reported Sunday.

Meanwhile, Shulkin reportedly believes that Trump appointees within the department have been conspiring against him and embarked on a campaign to purge the VA of disloyal employees.

In the midst of the controversies, Shulkin has complained that he is the victim of "subversion" from within the VA and at the White House organized by Trump administration political appointees who see him as an obstacle to expansion of the choice program allowing veterans to opt for private health care.

Senior administration officials say Shulkin is increasingly on thin ice with the president after a bruising internal report found ethics violations in connection with the secretary's trip to Europe with his wife last summer. Following reports of turmoil within the VA, Business Insider began receiving statements of alleged misconduct and mismanagement from current and former employees.

The current VA secretary, David Shulkin, is under fire for taking a taxpayer-funded trip to Europe past year.

The news comes after Trump's firing of Secretary of State Rex Tillerson.

White House chief of staff John Kelly reportedly met with Shulkin last week and counseled him to curb the drama, sources told Axios.

"The meeting with the President and VA Chief of Staff was productive, supportive and focused exclusively on moving forward in the best interest of our Veterans", Shulkin said in a statement provided to Axios. An armed guard reportedly stands outside his office, in part due to the upheaval and in part as a response to threats Shulkin received after the I.G. report was made public.

However, Kelly was reportedly blindsided when Shulkin later spoke with The New York Times about the issues within the VA.
