Nicaraguan police said Orlando Tercero, the 22-year-old suspect in the homicide of Binghamton University student Haley Anderson, was arrested earlier today, according to Nicaraguan newspapers El Nuevo Diario and La Prensa.

Earlier this week, Binghamton Police said they believe Tercero, Anderson's ex-boyfriend, had left on a flight from JFK in NY to Nicaragua last Friday.

Tercero flew to Nicaragua before authorities discovered the body of Anderson on Friday where he lived on Oak Street in Binghamton. Tercero allegedly "fled the United States via worldwide air to Nicaragua prior to the discovery of Haley Anderson's deceased body", according to a statement released by police. He is a US citizen. Anderson did not reside in the house. She was taken to Lourdes Hospital, where an autopsy found she was a victim of a homicide. The circumstances of what led to Anderson's death have not been revealed.

The two were students at the Decker School of Nursing and were previously in a relationship.

Further information regarding Tercero's arrest was not immediately available.

Detectives are continuing the investigation with the assistance of New York State University Police at Binghamton, the Broome County District Attorney's Office, the FBI, the Port Authority Police Department and Nassau County police.
