They may not make as many sequels to them as they should, but they at least do a good job of keeping them around.

The announce appeared via a quickly-deleted Twitter post - which was nonetheless spotted by fans.

The last major Mega Drive compilation was the Sega Mega Drive Ultimate Collection on the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, which contained nearly 50 games.

Another detail concerning the collection states that it will release on May 29, although this should be taken with a grain of salt.

At this early stage, a full list of games included isn't yet available, though we're sure to get one a bit nearer release.

This console version of Sega Genesis Collection will probably look an bad lot like the Sega Mega Drive and Genesis Classics package that's already available on Steam.

Certainly, the old collection was remarkably light on shooting games, which was somewhat odd, given their dominance on the platform - we'd love to see the three Thunder Force titles gathered up in the new list, for example. That collection was chock-full of Genesis games, and even included a few unlockable SEGA Master System and arcade games. Whether this new collection will be as robust as the one that the Xbox 360 and PS3 received remains to be seen.

The usuals then, but peculiarly the collection is only being released on Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC, with no mention of a Switch version.
