A huge sea of followers had gathered to listen to PaikstanTehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairperson Imran Khan in Gujrat on Tuesday.

According to Geo footage, the shoe directly hit the Aleem Khan when Imran was addressing the gathering during membership campaign in the city.

Although the shoe hit Aleem, it wasn't immediately clear who was the target of the attack as he was standing right next to PTI Chairman Imran Khan.

The shoe hit the PTI leader squarely in the chest, although with lesser force than was perhaps intended.

While Imran Khan's party blame the ruling Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) for the "shameful act", Punjab Law Minister Rana Sanaullah was quick to condemn the incident, saying that such shameful stunts can never be encouraged.

On Sunday, an Islamic seminary student hurled shoes at ousted prime minister Nawaz Sharif during a function at the Jamia Naeemia seminary in Lahore's Garhi Shahu area. Following the incident, the attacker was detained by the seminary's administration and later handed over to the police. The shoe attack drew widespread commendations from politicians and civil society. A man was arrested after the incident.

Foreign Minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif faced an unpleasant situation last week after a man splashed black ink at his face during his party's convention in his hometown Sialkot.
