Does Mourinho deserve more credit for giving the youngster regular game time?

The 47 year took over the Palace job at the beginning of the season, after Sam Allardyce left at the end of last season, and lost all four of his first four Premier League games without the side scoring a goal before he was sacked.

"It was flawless in relation to what the game gave us", said United manager Jose Mourinho, who won the tactical battle over rival manager Juergen Klopp. Does he play every match from the start? No?

However, even without the injured Paul Pogba, it was United who started on the front foot, adopting a more direct style with Romelu Lukaku the target and the Belgium striker was influential in both Rashford goals.

"Where he was saying it is not good for Marcus Rashford to have a coach like me because the most important thing for me is to win". He had seven matches, seven defeats [sic], zero goals.

Do you think Rashford deserves more game time under Mourinho?

The midfielder - who surprisingly started the goalless first leg on the bench in Spain - was injured on the eve of the Liverpool clash and was conspicuous by his absence from the section of training open to the media on Monday.

Mourinho offered no insight into Pogba's injury, just that the club-record signing could be involved against Sevilla.

Lingard meanwhile has enjoyed his most prolific season to date with the Old Trafford club, scoring a career high eight league goals, as well as providing four assists in the Premier League to strengthen his claim for a place in England's World Cup squad for the tournament in Russian Federation this summer.

And the Portuguese admitted United have no "advantage" as a score draw would see Sevilla progress. Only Manchester City, from the top six, we haven't beaten, at this moment. We have shown what we are capable of.

But the Italian is hoping to get one over on Mourinho to match Sevilla's best ever run in the European Cup when they reached the quarter-finals in 1958.

"But my experiences of the past - I understand that's part of the game". He's a player, he's very young, he needs games, but he's so talented.

Mourinho believes they are still some way off the European elite, but believes from his experiences of winning the competition with Porto and Inter Milan, anything is possible if they make the last eight.
