Acclaimed thespians Ian McKellen and Helen Mirren are set to star together in The Good Liar, an upcoming drama from New Line Cinema.

The film revolves around career con artist Roy Courtnay (McKellen), who can hardly believe his luck when he meets well-to-do widow Betty McLeish (Mirren) online. However, once Betty opens her heart to Roy he finds himself caring about her in a way that threatens his planned swindle.

The screenplay comes from Jeffrey Hatcher, who penned Condon's Mr. Holmes as well as Casanova and The Duchess. Greg Yolen will also produce, with Jack Morrissey along with Bron Creative's Aaron L. Gilbert and Jason Cloth executive producing.

The Good Liar sparked a bidding war when it was released in 2016 and offers rich material for McKellen to sink his teeth into. The film reunites actor Ian McKellen with director Condon: Their collaboration in 1998, on the period piece Gods and Monsters, earned each of them an Oscar nomination.

Mirren recently starred in the horror movie Winchester and will next be seen in Disney's The Nutcracker and the Four Realms.
