Sudheer Erragalla was earlier riding pillion on a bike, on his way to appear for an intermediate examination, when four assailants intercepted the bike. The 17-year-old tried to escape from the murderers' grasp and even boarded a school bus. According to police, the boy was first dragged out of a running bus and was hacked to death with a machete near the Kukatpally traffic police station.

A Class 12 student was hacked to death by a gang of four men on his way to the examination centre on busy Hyderabad-Mumbai national highway Monday morning.

While three of the attackers managed to slip away, one of them was caught by the crowd and handed over to the police, who are now investigating the case. The incident took place at around 8:30AM in broad daylight. "The suspects fled after the incident", said Bhujanga Rao, the Assistant Commissioner of Police of Kukatpally. Sudheer is a resident of Janata Nagar in Moosapet.

When the policemen intervened and tried to nab the accused, one of them (identified as B Naveen) tried to attack constables Prabhakar and Anji with a machete.

However, traffic cops caught hold of Naveen, who is now in police custody, a senior cop said. The police are suspecting a personal rivalry as a reason behind the murder.

Sudheer started from his home at Janatanagar in Moosapet on a bike with two of his friends, Meghnath and Sai Krishna. Officials are also investigating if the suspects were under the influence of narcotics. The police did not disclose any information related to the case, as their probe is on.
