Almora bus accident leaves 12 dead, rescue operations underway

At least 13 people died on Tuesday and over twelve others were injured in a bus accident in the Almora district of Uttarakhand. In the accident, 11 passengers died on the spot, while one passenger died during the treatment at Ramnagar Hospital. The bus had 24 people on board.

Based on preliminary investigations, police said the accident took place when the bus driver lost control of the vehicle while giving pass to a auto on a narrow stretch.

Rescue operations are now underway. At around 8.00 in the morning, when the bus was reaching near Totam, the bus fell down into a deep gorge by coming down from the road.

Meanwhile, staff at Bhatrojkhan police station said the postmortem was being conducted at Bhatrojkhan. Of the 12 persons who were injured, nine persons with head injuries have been admitted in hospitals in Haldwani, and three persons with minor injuries have been admitted in Ramnagar's civil hospital.

Shrivastava said that most of the victims have been identified, and they are from Deghat.
