Spanish publication Sport has reported that the Portuguese has identified Samuel Umtiti as the flawless addition for the English giants, and that the Red Devils would be prepared to match his €60 million (R879 million) release clause.

His agent and brother, Yannick Umtiti, is believed to be "in constant" contact with United's representatives, and Mourinho, who reportedly often calls the left-footed centre back personally, has asked the player's France teammates Paul Pogba and Anthony Martial to help lure him to Old Trafford.

Here at Vital Barcelona we'll keep an eye out for any further developments and report back as deemed necessary.

The 24-year-old defender has become a crucial player for the Catalan side since arriving from Lyon in the summer of 2016, forming an impressive partnership alongside Gerard Pique in the heart of defence.

Umtiti is available for €60 million (£53m) due to a release clause in his contract but Barcelona are trying to get the France global to sign a new deal before the World Cup begins.

Indeed, according to Sport, Manchester United are weighing up a huge summer move for Umtiti by meeting his £54m release clause.

Umtiti's deal with Barca is worth €4m (£3.5m) a year, but Sport claim that United are proposing a contract worth €9m (£8m) a season.

His current deal expires in 2021, and it wouldn't be a surprise if Umtiti was using interest from Man United to force Barcelona to offer him a bigger deal.
